.” for example in bermondsey space has been provided free-of-charge for the experimental green lab, where start-ups and academics are working on urban growing technologies. concepts like this cannot afford to pay rent and require space to establish themselves, but the benefits are enormous for both the paying businesses and the local community. one of the start-ups from the green lab, friche has created a vertical growing wall producing fresh lettuces which also provides a privacy screen for workers in the meeting space. the same start-up also shares a selection of fresh vegetables grown in the lab once a month with the businesses who have paid for space. residents from the local area have been invited to join in with the series of creative and educational events held in the space. another example is the charity re-start project, who works to reduce the amount of electronics going to waste, and have hosted one of their famous re-start parties in the space to show people how to fix their broken iphones rather than throwing them away. cribb says, “ there are plenty of resources available helping start-ups and smes with funding and business advice but not so much showing them how to embed themselves locally within the social fabric and benefit society more widely. founders of modern start-ups and small businesses are also often conscious consumers themselves and we believe manchester. it has been fitted-out by local craftsman we met from our previous manchester project in london scottish house, and designed by architect jennifer chen, who was a long-time project leader
